Xbox Live not working?!?

I have an Xbox 360 S 250GB hard-drive, but i cannot connect to XBL. I have a Gold account, and I have signed on in the past. Its not my connection so don't say that. i have 3 bars signal strength. Anyone know whats happening? I didnt buy illegally or anything!! So please help!!!
